Patricia D. Murray

Patricia Murray is President and CEO for P.D. Murray & Associates, LLC, which provides consulting services and executive leadership development to healthcare companies, corporate executives, and small businesses. She has more than 45 years of experience in the healthcare industry and served as a Senior Executive Service (SES), at the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA). Her roles across the DVA included executive leadership for three national programs where she guided programmatic strategy, budget, program design and implementation, and advanced operational excellence to execute exceptional customer service and collaborative relationship building that resulted in brilliant, high-impact programmatic and managerial solutions in the delivery of healthcare services and benefits to veterans and their family. Her transformative leadership and unmatched capacity to exceed mission-based expectations resulted in her receipt of numerous awards, including the VA Secretary Distinguish Career Award—a prestigious accolade for persistently superior leadership. Throughout her career in the SES, Ms. Murray has been recognized for her keen display of leadership appeal. A skillful strategic thinker, dedicated to quality performance and operational brilliance, her unique approaches cultivate total organizational excellence. Ms. Murray contributed 36 years of dedicated service to the DVA, and was selected to the Secretary’s Task Force for the strategic transformation of the VA into the 21st century. Her nuanced sense of VA needs and commitment to advancing VA mission and vision have led her to testify before Congress on numerous Veteran-related issues.

In 1984, then 1st Lieutenant Murray joined the Air Force Reserves as a Flight Nurse, and successfully managed responsibilities for worldwide air transport and health well-being of military members and their families, before becoming a Medical Service Corp Officer. Her dedication to service earned her the Air Force Commendation Medal in 1997, 1994, and 2002; Commander’s Humanitarian Award in 1996 and 1998; and Air Force Meritorious Service Award, among many others. She achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and retired in 2006 after 22 years of service.

Her professional affiliations include membership in the Reserve Officer’s Association (ROA) Lifetime Member, the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States (AMSUS); the Federal Executive Institute Alumna Association; and the Interagency Institute Alumna Association. She is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Hospital Association, and the National Association of Healthcare Quality.

Ms. Murray earned a Bachelor of Nursing and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration at DePaul University in Chicago, IL. She is a graduate of the Executive Development Program at the UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School in Chapel Hill, NC, and the Federal Executive Institute Charlottesville, VA. She is a certified healthcare executive and Lifetime Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives (LFACHE), Ms. Murray is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) with the National Association of Healthcare Quality. A lifelong learner, with deep interest in staying current on industry trends, she is currently enrolled at Georgetown University’s Executive Leadership Coaching Certificate Program.

She lives in the Washington, DC area. Community service, education, and giving back have always been top priorities in her life. Ms. Murray serves on the University System of Maryland and Coppin State University Foundation Boards.
