John C. Weiss is Chairman of the BioTechnical Institute of Maryland, Inc. and, since 2000, a Lecturer at the University of Baltimore’s Merrick School of Business. Most recently, Mr. Weiss served as the founding Executive Director of the City of Baltimore’s Parking Authority and earlier as President during the turnaround of Chesapeake Biological Laboratories, Inc. He organized, raised and managed five venture capital funds from the mid-80’s to the mid-90’s that focused on emerging technologies and early stage companies with a special emphasis on the mid-Atlantic Region.
Mr. Weiss was managing general partner of Anthem Capital, the founding managing director of The Maryland Venture Capital Trust, and managing director of Arete Ventures Inc. and the Utech Venture Capital Funds. He serves on several civic and community boards including St. Agnes Healthcare Foundation, the Baltimore Workforce Investment Board, and the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion Endowment Fund.
Mr. Weiss is also Chairman Emeritus of the Greater Baltimore Technology Council and past president of The Engineering Society of Baltimore. He earned his B.S. degree from Towson University and an MBA from Loyola College, and his wife, Kathleen, is a graduate of the University of Maryland, as are both of their daughters. The Weiss’s reside in Baltimore, Maryland.
