Leonard Raley is President and CEO of the University System of Maryland Foundation, Inc. (USMF), and is responsible for $1.4 billion in assets under management on behalf of 11 institutions within the University System of Maryland (USM) and six Maryland community college foundations. With a board of 52 members, Leonard has helped guide the USMF to engage in best governing practices with non-profit institutionally related foundations. In 2015, Institutional Investor announced the USMF as its winner of the Good Governance award. Leonard also serves as Vice Chancellor for Advancement for the USM and is responsible for providing leadership in support of USM’s fundraising efforts, including the USM’s last federated campaign that raised $2.1 billion.
Leonard currently serves as Treasurer of the Maryland Marketing Partnership (MMP) Board of Directors. The MMP works to create a branding strategy for the state, market the state’s assets and encourage the location and growth of new businesses in Maryland. Raley is a past chair of the board for both the Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber, and his high school, St. Mary’s Ryken, located in Southern Maryland. Additionally, Leonard is past Chair of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education’s (CASE) National Committee for Institutionally Related Foundations. He frequently contributes and speaks at conferences and events for CASE and the Association of Governing Boards.
Leonard earned an MBA from the University of Baltimore and a BS in Business Administration (Finance and Personnel) from Towson University.
