Discussion with Towson University’s Brian DeFilippis, VP for University Advancement and Ex. VP for the Towson University Foundation (TUF), Edna Primrose, President of the TUF, and John Mease, VP and CFO for TUF
This will be a conversation about the success of the TU Foundation strategic planning. The discussion cover:
- Why the TUF decided to conduct a strategic plan.
- How the process for the strategic plan was led by an ad-hoc strategic planning committee made up of TUF directors.
- Some of the challenges they faced.
- The results from the strategic plan which led to a much more effective board aligned with the University’s mission and priorities. The process also changed the TUF from focusing only on fiduciary responsibilities to a more engaged, diverse board which embraces philanthropic and advocacy responsibilities.
This discussion will be helpful for any advancement or foundation staff members who want to understand strategic planning for a volunteer leadership board and the positive impact it can have.
