Pedro E. Wasmer retired as president of Somerset Capital Group, Ltd, a major equipment leasing firm, in December 2007. Somerset Capital Group ranks among the Hispanic Business Magazine’s top 500 Hispanic-owned companies in the country. Mr. Wasmer emigrated from Cuba to Baltimore, Maryland in 1951. After graduating from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, he earned a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1962.

In 1964, Mr. Wasmer completed the curriculum for a Master’s Program in Latin American Area Studies at American University. He has served on the Board of the University of Maryland Alumni Council, and is currently a member of the school’s Riggs Alumni Center Development Committee. Mr. Wasmer is also currently a member of the Board of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport, CT, and Chairman of the Development Committee of the Fairfield College Preparatory School. In 1998, Mr. Wasmer was a finalist for Hispanic Business Magazine’s “Entrepreneur of the Year.”
