President’s Message
Spring is here, bringing with it a sense of rebirth after a long winter season. In this celebratory spirit, UB kicked off the public phase of its new campaign – announcing that it has already raised more than half of its $40 million goal (more inside).
And, despite the economic climate, our institutions continue to receive significant philanthropic support – as you will see in this edition of LeaderNotes. This is a testament to the quality of our students and faculty and the hard work of presidents, deans and staff to make these gifts happen.
On May 6, we will host a foundation summit at Hidden Waters, moderated by Curt Simic, president emeritus of the Indiana University Foundation and national expert on institutionally-related foundations. The chairs of our affiliated foundations and the vice presidents for institutional advancement have been invited to participate in a program that will discuss best practices and trends.
Finally, I was honored to speak at the 17th Annual CASE Conference on Institutionally Related Foundations in late March. This conference is an invaluable source of information on the work we do – covering both the emerging and perennial issues we face in this business and providing a platform to share best practices with peers.
As always, please contact me with any questions or suggestions at raley@usmd.edu. With warm regards,
Leonard R. Raley, President and CEO
