This year, the University System of Maryland Foundation decided to highlight the partnership between the institutions within the University System of Maryland (USM) and the Foundation by way of an art contest that we hope will become an annual tradition. We felt an art contest would be a great way to strengthen the connection between the Foundation and the students, faculty, and staff we ultimately serve.

There was an incredible response, with faculty, staff, and students submitting different types of artwork to reflect upon our theme. Contestants were encouraged to consider the following quote: “Do not fear the winds of adversity. Remember: a kite rises against the wind rather than with it” – unknown. In addition to the grand prizewinner, there were several runners up who are featured throughout the 2012 Annual Report.
