USM Institutions Launch $1.5B Campaign

When Governor Ehrlich announced the University System’s 2007 budget, he also formally announced that the USM would launch a $1.5 billion capital campaign and committed $3.2 million in base-budgeted funds to supplement needed campaign infrastructure. The campaign will be carried out as a federation of 13 USM institutions, each with its own set of priorities and funding targets. Taken as a whole, the aggregate campaigns constitute the largest fundraising drive by public institutions of higher education in Maryland’s history. Most USM institutions are in the silent phases of their respective campaigns. The five-year public phase of their campaigns will conclude in 2012. As of January 31, 2006, the 13 institutions comprising the University System of Maryland had raised a total of $340 million or 23% of the aggregate campaign goal.
