Alfonso N. Cornish is Vice President, Education and Development/Chief Learning Officer for Norton Healthcare. He is the leadership director of Norton University, which provides executive development programs and e-learning offerings for clinical and non-clinical staff. In addition, he is responsible for career planning and overall talent management efforts.

Mr. Cornish has over thirty years experience in administrative, training, human resource and operations management. He has been in senior leadership roles in some of the most well known companies in America including AMF Bowling Worldwide, Inc., Central Parking Systems Inc., 7-Eleven Food Stores, Inc., Automatic Data Processing and Hardee’s Food Systems. Most recently, he served as Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Prince George’s County, Maryland.

A native of Cambridge, Maryland, Mr. Cornish is a cum laude graduate of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and holds a Master of Science in Human Resource Management (summa cum laude) from Lacrosse University.

An active participant in his community, Mr. Cornish holds memberships in several professional and social organizations, including the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (Theta Omega Chapter); Life Member, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; Louisville, Kentucky Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); Rainbow/PUSH Coalition; Society for Human Resource Management; American Society for Training and Development; American Society for Healthcare Human Resource Administrators; National Association of Health Services Executives; Associate Member, Leadership Louisville; National Institute for Healthcare Leadership Executive National Learning Network; University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Lacrosse Universities’ National Alumni Associations; and the National Forum for Black Public Administrators.

He is a board member of the ASTD Kentuckiana Chapter (Immediate Past President); Chestnut Street YMCA; University of Louisville Libraries Library Associates; Volunteers of America; Home of the Innocent; Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS); State of Kentucky Council on Economic Education; Spalding University School of Business and Communications and Steward’s Staff. In addition, he serves as the Co-Chairman of the HIRE Education Forum’s Chief Learning Community group.
