“The painting can be interpreted as a literal translation of Steve Job’s quote, ‘I want to put a ding in the universe.’ I especially wanted the gestural style of painting to convey the energy that Steve Jobs brought to everything that he did. The pronoun of the quote, ‘I,’ expands beyond simply referring to my personal self. Rather, it encompasses the entirety of Earth: humanity. Differing theories aside, it can be agreed upon that the universe is a vast cosmic system that dwarfs the Earth by comparison and indifferently renders it as an insignifi- cant object amongst the countless array of other celestial bodies. Despite this, the Earth (and humanity), has left its mark on the universe; a ding, if you will."

Our Vision

Our vision is to attract broad resources that transform the USM and its institutions, create a network of advocates to embrace the USM’s role as an educator and economic engine, and to grow a long-term, sustainable culture of philanthropy across the University System of Maryland.
