USM Names Robert L. Caret New Chancellor

After a successful tenure as president of the five-campus University of Massachusetts system, Robert L. Caret will return to Maryland as chancellor of the University System of Maryland. James L. Shea, chairman of the USM Board of Regents, announced the board's appointment of Caret, effective July 1, 2015. Caret served as president of Towson University, one of USM's 12 institutions, from 2003 to 2011.

Winter Break Closings

The USM Foundation offices will be closed for Winter Break from Thursday, December 25th through Friday, January 2nd and will resume normal operations on Monday January 5th. There will be limited staff available on December 29th – 31st to assist with any critical year-end issues. The art contest encouraged submissions to create a work of art that would reflect the Nelson Mandela quote, “Vision without action is just a dream, action without vision just passes the time, and vision with action can change the world." The contest was open to all faculty, staff, and students throughout the University System of Maryland (USM).
