Timothy J. McDonough Appointed USM Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing

Chancellor Robert L. Caret has appointed Timothy J. McDonough as the system's vice chancellor for communications and marketing. McDonough is a veteran communications professional with considerable experience in higher education on a national scale. He comes to the USM from his current position as Vice President for Government and Public Affairs at the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB).


42 Mini-Grants to Support Adoption of Open Educational Resources Awarded

The Maryland Open Source Textbook (M.O.S.T.) initiative announced the award of 42 mini-grants to 17 public higher education institutions across the state through its High-impact OER Mini-Grant Program. The funded projects will support the adoption of open educational resources (OER) in high enrollment courses, the development of OER pathways, and the creation of OER in high-need areas. The awards will impact approximately 8,000 students at 2- and 4-year public colleges and universities throughout Maryland.


USM Officially Welcomes USM Southern Maryland (USMSM) as 3rd Regional Higher Education Center

The University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland (USMSM) formally joined the Universities at Shady Grove and USM at Hagerstown as the third regional higher education center operated by the state’s public university system, the University System of Maryland (USM). Located in St. Mary’s County, the center currently hosts educational programs sponsored by nine universities, including five USM institutions.
